GREAT PODCASTS DON'T JUST SOUND GOOD, THEY LOOK THE PART TOO

Follow this checklist to make sure your artwork is pulling its weight!
-
Does your artwork clearly communicate what your podcast is about?
Can a new listener instantly understand the theme, tone, or genre at a glance?
-
Is your font readable, even at thumbnail size?
Avoid overly decorative or thin fonts that disappear on small screens.
-
Do your colours match the mood and tone of your podcast?
Bright and bold may suggest comedy; dark and moody may hint at true crime. Make sure the vibe is right.
-
Is your design clean, not cluttered?
Too much text or too many visual elements can overwhelm.
Simplicity = memorability.
-
Are you using relevant, high-quality imagery (if any)?
Photos, icons or illustrations really help convey personality but make sure they serve a purpose and reflect your brand.
-
Are you avoiding outdated podcast clichés?
It’s 2025, ditch the clipart mics, headphones, and sound waves unless they’re integral to your identity.
-
Does your artwork align with your wider branding?
If you’re using social media, video, or merchandise, your cover art should feel part of a consistent visual world.
-
Have you created the right artwork specs for each platform?
Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and social channels all have different size and layout requirements. Don’t let a stretched or cropped image ruin your first impression.
-
Will your artwork stand out in a crowded feed?
Scroll through the charts in your category, does your design grab attention or blend into the background? Bold choices (when done well) can help you cut through.
-
Have you tested your artwork with others?
What you see may not be what others interpret. Share your artwork with a few people unfamiliar with your show and ask:
“What do you think this podcast is about?”
